When It's Great to be a
Lion

On the morning of May
17, six Millington Lions
visited Millington’s and
St. Paul’s first grade
classrooms. This is an
annual visit with our
first graders where the
Lions conduct an
American flag education
presentation and attempt
to answer questions
about our flag. The
Lions also gift an
American flag to each
student. The event is
thoroughly enjoyed by
the Lions, as each
participating member
relishes the interaction
with our young citizens
(and are sometimes
amused as well).
Pictured are (L-R) Lions
Ron Leach, Sam Licavoli,
Dean Bedtelyon, Larry
Warner, Todd Ostrander
and R.G. Barnum.
Nationally, Lions Clubs
sponsor poster contests,

began building the
facility last month. The
project is now complete
and ready to use. We
wish to acknowledge Lion

Project KidSight 2016

The Project KidSight
sight screening program
that occurred on October
1 at the St. Paul's Fall
Festival was indeed a
success. We wish
to thank the Festival
Committee, those who
assisted, and most of
all, the parents who
brought their children
to be vision screened.

Free Children's Vision
Screening - October 1,
2016

The Millington
Lions Club will be providing free children’s
vision screening on Saturday October 1, 2016
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s
Lutheran School in Millington. This vision
screening is open to all and is part of the
Lions Foundation of Michigan’s Project KidSight.
Parents just need to park the car and walk
into the school.
The screening is a
very simple procedure. A digital
photograph of the child is taken and the image
is then analyzed by a computer. Our vision
screening equipment produces a binocular image
of a child’s eyes to develop a preliminary
determination of the presence of eye disorders.
The process takes
just a few minutes. Project KidSight can
detect potential vision problems in children as
young as one year of age and we will screen
children up to the age of nine.
Each year,
thousands of Michigan children receive free
vision screenings through Project KidSight.
About 5% of children between the ages of one and
five years of age experiences reduced vision
resulting from a vision disorder. If
treated while the visual system is still
maturing, eye disorders can typically be
corrected with a non-surgical intervention and
usually normal vision can be restored.
The Millington
Lions Club encourages parents to take advantage
of this free vision screening. After
all, every child benefits from good eyesight.

information contact Dave Kern at 989-239-6619,

OUR TOWN

It's long overdue
that we thank Lions Jack Meinecke, Mike Prell,
Tom Kukulski and Marcus Jensen for
rehabilitating the signs located on both the
east and west ends of the village. It took a
great deal of effort cutting brush and restoring
these signs. Thanks guys for putting We Serve in
motion for Our Town.
